What is the import cost?

The import cost is the total cost consisting of the sum of all payments arising when a product is brought into the country. It covers not only the purchase price of the goods, but also customs duty, VAT and other official payments. A correctly calculated import cost helps a business determine the real cost of the product and an appropriate selling price.

What components make up the import cost?

The main components are: customs value (the value of the goods), import duty (a percentage of the value), VAT (18% of the duty-inclusive value) and additional charges (customs clearance, transport, insurance, etc.). Adding these components in the correct order is important, because VAT is calculated after the duty is added on top of the customs value.

How is the import cost calculated?

First the customs duty is calculated: Customs value × Duty rate. Then the VAT base is determined: Customs value + Duty. VAT is calculated on this base: (Customs value + Duty) × 18%. Finally, the total cost: Customs value + Duty + VAT + Additional charges. For example, for goods worth 1,000 manats, a 15% duty and 18% VAT: the duty is 150 manats, the VAT base is 1,150 manats, the VAT is 207 manats, and the total is 1,357 manats.

How to use the calculator?

Enter the customs value, the duty rate, the VAT rate and any additional charges. The calculator shows each component separately and automatically calculates the total cost. This lets importers estimate the real value of a product in advance and build a pricing strategy.
